Country Style Strawberry Preserves: A Vintage Recipe
What Can I Do With All These Strawberries?
Jump to RecipeIf you are like me…you jumped on the strawberries this year.
I must preserve them all! But how…
So I made a Strawberry Vanilla Jam, and my Strawberry Mint Pie.
My table was still full of berries. So I found this recipe in my binder with my great grandmother’s canning recipes.
This recipe is not necessarily for canning. (Although, you could definitely water bath your jars for 15 minutes if you wanted.)
For these Country Style Preserves, I stored them in the fridge and they were gone within three days. Long term storage was NO issue. They would probably last at least a week though.
How Do I Make Country Style Preserves?
I’m going to make this short and sweet. (haha. just like the recipe, ;))
You need simple ingredients:
Strawberries
and
Sugar.
My grandmother’s instructions were super easy:
3 cups of sugar to 1 quart of strawberries
To one quart of strawberries, add 1 1/2 c sugar. Boil 5 minutes. Add 1 1/2 cup sugar, boil ten minutes. Stir occasionally.
Pour into bowl and let sit 24 hours.
Minnie Grindstaff
That’s it!
You can use these preserves on biscuits, toast, cheesecake, custard pie (which is what we did!) and many other things.
It’s a quick and simple recipe to get those strawberries preserved.
